Made by the Northern Goldsmiths Co of Newcastle in their Ducal plate range. Note that the bread knife pictured is for illustration only and is not included in the sale. ANTIQUE SILVER PLATED RATTAIL CANTEEN 50 pieces 6 settings Item #31749 A lovely canteen of silver plated flatware in the Rattail pattern with associated steel and ivorine handled knives. 6 place settings comprising table forks, table knives, dessert forks, dessert knives, dessert spoons, teaspoons, soup spoons, 1x sauce ladle and 1x sugar tongs. The soup spoons are occupying the space in the set that would have held a carving set and are by Walker & Hall. The reset of the pieces are original to the canteen which is by Mackay & Chisholm of Edinburgh. The tongs are also Walker & Hall and plain Hanoverian. All gleaming silver and not too heavily used. Knives in particular are very fine for age. The oak case has slight lift at one corner caused by its hinge mechanism but sits reasonably flat when the lid is close. Green Cornish Blue named BREAD bin made c. 2002 with a handmade replacement heavy beech wood lid, the lid having sensible ‘breathing’ holes – something they should have done in the first place! This is a large and heavy piece and cannot be shipped via regular airmail etc. The crock is fine and undamaged – although it has an ‘S’ mark to underside meaning a slight second there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. The lid is obviously a well made replacement with a few surface marks, doesn’t fit absolutely perfectly but well enough for use and looks fine. CANTEEN SILVER PLATED PLAIN HANOVERIAN INITIAL ‘E’ 12 SETTINGS Item #31846 An interesting and large early c.20th canteen suite of silver plated plain Hanoverian pattern flatware with a single initial ‘E’ to handles and associated cream handled cutlery. 12 main place settings of dinner knife, side knife, dinner fork, side fork, dessert spoons, tablespoons + 2x sauce ladle and 3 piece carving set. The flatware is by Fenton, Russel & Co of Edinburgh and the cutlery is by a mixture of Street & Co of Newcastle and N.H. Chapman of Newcastle. Note that 6 of the main knives are deliberately intended to be slightly shorter in the canteen (probably 6x adult and 6x childs but the difference isn’t really very much – they are still large!). Total of 77 pieces. There are 2 replacement pieces of silverware in the Old English pattern (1x dessert fork and 1x dessert spoon) which are of similar size but without monogram. 2 of the dessert knives have no makers name. Silverware is all gleaming and not that heavily used. Cutlery also lightly used. Case is fine with some minor marks and a few small digs to lid. GBP224.99 click here to view item in our store
