UNUSUAL ANTIQUE SPELTER PEWTER SEDAN CHAIR LIDDED BOX MAKER ‘RA’ Item #32359
This is a very strange piece – we are not 100% sure even what metal it is made from, it is extremely heavy, looks like a cross between a pewter and a weathered spelter type metal. It is very old too. To the front a lord is leaning from the sedan window and his feet are deliberately ‘falling out’ of the bottom of the box. The 2 sedan bearers hold the chair via steel rods and these are removable so that the box part can be taken off the base plinth. There is a heraldic shield to both sides of the sedan of a knight’s head left and 2 chevrons right. The underside of the box has a makers mark of ‘R A’ and some very old writing in ink. Has natural ‘ageing’ of the metal. The lid hinge has been historically resoldered and there is a small section of the metal to the box below the hinge that is missing. Also a very small hole to this same side towards the base of the box area.

Items will be auctioned for 10 days starting Thursday 26th January (ending Sunday 5th February) from 20:15GMT onwards.
